About The Role

Job Purpose
 
The Health & Safety manager leads and develops our health, safety, and compliance strategy across our operations — including Ellon, Berlin, Hop Hub and our retail estate. They are responsible for ensuring a safe and legally compliant working environment for all employees, contractors, and visitors, while promoting a strong culture of safety awareness and continuous improvement throughout the business.
 
Key Result Area / Principal Duties & Responsibilities
 

Strategic and Leadership

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the company’s Health & Safety strategy across all sites.
  • Advise the senior leadership team on legal and regulatory requirements, emerging risks, and best practices.
  • Foster a positive safety culture through engagement, training, and communication across all departments.
  • Lead the health and safety team ensuring the team are clear on what is expected of them and assure they are given the support and development they require to succeed.
  • Develop and deliver a BrewDog behavioural Safety program. A safety culture that drives behaviours that enable a safe, healthy and incident free workplace.

    Compliance and Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable health and safety legislation (e.g. COSHH, RIDDOR, PUWER).
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits across all locations.
  • Maintain and update risk assessments, safe systems of work (SSOW), and method statements.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses — identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Manage the company’s health and safety management system and ensure documentation is current and accessible.
  • Establish and assist in the development of internal H&S policies, procedures, standards and processes including supporting documentation and subsequent maintenance of records.

    Training and Development

  • Deliver or coordinate health and safety training, inductions, and toolbox talks.
  • Support managers and team leaders to understand and fulfil their H&S responsibilities.
  • Promote continuous learning and development on safety topics relevant to brewing, logistics, and hospitality environments.

    Operational Support

  • Work closely with teams across all sites to identify and mitigate site-specific hazards (e.g. confined space entry, chemical handling, manual handling, machinery safety, slips/trips/falls, and customer safety).
  • Oversee contractor management and permit-to-work systems.
  • Ensure the safe management of deliveries, storage, and transportation of materials, including hazardous substances.
  • Lead emergency preparedness planning, including fire safety, first aid, and crisis response.

Health & Safety
  • Ensure that Health and Safety guidelines and fire regulations are strictly adhered to at all times.
  • Comply with safe working practices as defined by BrewDog.
  • Complete online or face to face training as and when required.
  • Take reasonable care for your own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by acts or omissions at work.
  •  Report any accidents, incidents or near misses as soon as reasonably practicable.
 
General
  • Be aware of and adhere to BrewDog policies and the Workplace Code at all times.
  • Take part in crew reviews throughout the year.
  • Cooperate with other BrewDog departments to achieve a great experience for our customers, applicants, colleagues, and contractors.
  • Attend training courses and complete online
    training modules as required to meet the
    requirements of the role.
  • Take responsibility for own personal development, seeking out opportunities to learn new skills.
  • Undertake any other duties as requested which are reasonably deemed to be within the scope of the role or necessary for the smooth running of the business.
  • Apply the BrewDog charter and behaviours to every aspect of the role at all times
  •  Protect and enhance the interests and reputation of BrewDog internally and externally.
 

About You

 Qualifications & Specific Training

  • Recognised qualification in Health & Safety (i.e. NEBOSH; IOSH; DIPLOMA)
  •  Internal Health and Safety Auditor Qualification 
 
Experience
  • Minimum of two years ‘demonstrable’ experience as a Health & Safety leader within an organisation (FCMG/ Manufacturing industry preferred).
  • Demonstrable stakeholder engagement activities. (Internal and external to an organisation).
  •  You can demonstrate previous experience working in a Health & Safety role. Have a good grasp, knowledge, and can converse on workplace applications, of current health and safety regulations.
Knowledge
  • Knowledge and development of ’fit for purpose’ policies, processes and procedures that are user friendly and regulatory compliant.
  • Good foundation of Human Behaviour, Human Error and Performance Influencing Factors, and their impact on workplace safety cultures.
  • Good knowledge and practical application of relevant statutory framework, legislation including ISO Standards (9001:2015; 14001:2015 and 45001:2018
  •  You have a demonstrable knowledge of risk management principles.
 
Skills
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, listening, influencer and negotiator)
  • Workplace application of accident and incident investigation, including Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
  • Confidently plan and execute Health & Safety system audits as Lead auditor including management of correction and corrective action programs,
  • Ability to effectively coach and mentor teams and individual crew members on Health & Safety Culture, Leadership and Behavioural safety as an integral part of employee development programs.
  • Enjoy being analytical, providing attention to detail and an ability to develop, present and maintain performance indicators.
